This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

Career Opportunities

v Graduates will gain the minimum qualification to be able to work in the Early Childhood Industry, such as a Long Day Childcare Services, Preschool, Occasional Care Service, Out of School Hours Care, In Home Care or as a Family Day Care Educator.

v The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a pathway to the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Entry Requirements

For entry into this course students need:
v Minimum Literacy and Numeracy skills apply v Be 18 years by completion of course
v Completed Australian Year 10 or equivalent


Fulltime: 12 months

12 Months via face to face learning or 12 months via flexible learning or RPL inclusive of holiday period.
v Classroom Based

u 50 Weeks at 5 day fortnight and block placement weeks

v Vocational Placement - minimum 120 hours


Vocational Placement

Vocational placement is a crucial component. Students will undertake a mandatory, minimum 120 hours of placement in an approved Childcare Setting including 30 hours with children under 24 months

v Blue Card – QLD working with Children Check

Students are expected to have in place strategies to manage family and work commitments in order to meet class and vocational placement shifts. Students will continue to be assessed against prescribed units of competency undertaken during their vocational placement.

Volume of Hours

This Qualification requires a volume of learning consistent with the AQF descriptors between 1200 and 2400 hours of training. To allow for the appropriate learning opportunities and required assessment the standard duration is 12 months. A shortened duration may be acceptable where students hold credit transfers or are experienced in the workplace and have most of the required skills and knowledge or complete extra hours of study.

CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care requires the completion of 18 units of competence comprising of 15 core units and 3 elective units.

  • CHCECE009 -Use an approved learning framework to guide practice

  • CHCECE010 -Support the holistic development of children in early childhood

  • CHCECE011 -Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning

  • CHCECE013-Use information about children to inform practice

  • CHCLEG001 -Work legally and ethically

  • CHCPRT001 -Identify and respond to children and young people at risk

  • HLTAID004 -Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

  • HLTWHS001 -Participate in workplace health and safety

Students will earn either a Qualification or relevant Statement of Attainment in CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Recognition of Prior Learning and credit transfer

Students can apply for recognition of previous study or work skills.
We also recognise the relevant credentials issued by other training organisations operating under the VET Quality Framework.

Further Study

After achieving the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, candidates may undertake the CHC50113 Diploma in Early Education and Care.
